A modular office facade design using repeating geometry to create depth, shadow, and a bird-safe exterior for a certified dealer's flagship.
The TOSTEM Office facade showcases Outside In’s expertise in translating a repeating architectural module into a striking, functional exterior. Designed for Ittirich Plus Co., Ltd. as a TOSTEM Certified Dealer showroom, the facade uses a rhythmic, angular pattern to give the building a bold identity within its streetscape while quietly solving a practical design challenge: protecting birds from collision with reflective surfaces.
Beyond its striking appearance, this facade design was shaped by precision and repetition. Each panel is set at a calculated height and angle, working together to create a dynamic surface that shifts with the light throughout the day – a facade that’s as considered in its engineering as it is in its visual impact.
Design Concept
The facade design is built from a single repeating module, arranged in three varying heights from top to bottom. This staggered rhythm generates natural shadow and depth across the surface, giving the flat black form a strong sense of dimension and movement as light changes throughout the day.
Materials & Color Palette
Finished in a black mirror surface, the facade design creates a bold, reflective presence that anchors the building’s street-facing identity, standing out sharply against the surrounding shophouses while giving the TOSTEM signage a premium, showroom-quality backdrop.
Bird-Safe Design
Functionality is built directly into the geometry: the angled, sharp-pointed panels break up reflections and disrupt the mirrored surface, helping to deter birds from mistaking the facade for open sky – turning a potential hazard of reflective materials into a considered, bird-safe facade design.
User Experience
By day, the layered panels catch and scatter natural light, creating a constantly shifting play of shadow across the facade. By night, the dark mirrored surface and signage lighting give the building a sharp, contemporary presence, reinforcing TOSTEM’s identity as a modern, design-forward brand.
