INTERNATIONAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RAMA 2
A school facade design that brings playful rhythm and natural warmth to a children's learning environment.
For International Elementary School Rama 2, Outside In carried out a facade renovation that transforms a functional but ordinary school block into a distinctive, welcoming landmark on campus – a facade design built specifically around the daily experience of young students, rather than aesthetics alone.
Design Concept
The facade design is defined by a continuous wave pattern running across each floor’s balcony line, set against a field of straight vertical aluminum louvers. That contrast – rigid, repeating slats held within a soft, flowing curve – gives the building a sense of gentle motion, echoing the energy and playfulness of the children who use the space every day, while softening the rigid geometry typical of institutional school architecture.
Materials & Color Palette
Aluminum finished in a warm wood-grain tone was selected for this facade design, pairing the durability and low maintenance of aluminum with the warmth and approachability of natural timber. Set against the school’s existing crisp white balustrades, the wood-grain tone brings a comforting, homely quality to a learning environment, without sacrificing the material’s long-term performance.
Functionality
Beyond its visual identity, the louvered facade design serves a practical dual role – filtering sunlight and reducing glare and heat across classroom balconies and corridors, while also functioning as a safety guard along the walkways, an essential consideration for a building used by young children every day.
Renovation & Integration
Rather than a full reconstruction, this facade renovation extends across multiple bays and floors as one continuous, flowing gesture; visually unifying what were previously separate window bays into a single, cohesive elevation. The result integrates seamlessly with the school’s existing built fabric while giving the campus a distinct, memorable new identity.
